marble & granite
Granite
Subtle earth tones of exquisite quartz blend superbly with any decor, exhibiting nature's richness, strength, and grandeur, enhancing any setting. Providing one of the most attractive and durable surfaces available. It is highly resistant to scratches, stains and heat, it will last virtually forever. Granite does not harbor bacteria and resealing only needs to be done when water stops beading on the surface. It gives a heavy crystalline and granular appearance with mineral grains. There are different types of granite depending on the percentage mix of quartz, mica, feldspar and potassium.
Marble
There is no doubt that marble can make a stunning statement in your home. Ranging in many colors, usually heavily veined, the softness of marble and its consistency makes it very desirable for art. Marble comes from a limestone that formed when it softened from heat and pressure, then recrystallized into marble where mineral change occurred. The main consistency is calcium and dolomite.
Onyx
The transmitter of light is an exquisite and unique form of marble which some say provides comfort, relieves stress, and calms the heart. This exotic stone is all about luxury and glamour, with colors that are soft and sensuous illuminating pastel shades of golden honey, greens, and redish browns. It works wonderful where you can accent the stone and use under lighting or backlighting to draw attention to its translucent qualities. Onyx is a cryptocrystalline form of quartz often found in limestone caves. When water dissolves the existing limestone and re-deposits it, the quartz crystals fuse together into translucent layers of stone.
Travertine
The simple beauty of this stone is a real head turner. It is timeless yet rich, usually cream or reddish in color. It is formed through the accumulation of calcite from hot springs, containing lots of holes that were formed from water flowing through the stone. These holes are often filled with synthetic resins or cements. It is classified as a limestone and a marble.
Limestone
Has simple character with smooth delicate features and granular surface. Common colors are black, grey, white, tan or brown. It does not show graining or crystalline structure. A sedimentary rock mainly composed of mineral calcite which primary source is typically marine organisms deposited on the ocean floors as pelagic ooze.
Soapstone
This old world stone is making a very popular comeback. Youll quickly fall in love with the natural beauty of soapstone, appreciating its timeless qualities and classic appeal. Its highly heat resistant dense minerals wear well. Largely composed of the mineral talc and rich in magnesium, it is produced by dynamothermal metamorphism and metasomatism, which occurs at the areas where tectonic plates are sub ducted, changing rocks by heat and pressure, with influx of fluids, but without melting. Mineral oil enhances the color of soapstone and over time it will form a natural patina.
Slate
The nature of slate enhances quality, image and value; usually black, tan, green or gray but also available in a variety natural colors from around the world. Fine-grained, foliated, homogeneous, metamorphic rock derived from an original shale-type sedimentary rock composed of clay, quartz or volcanic ash through low grade regional metamorphism the result is a foliated rock in which the foliation may not correspond to the original sedimentary layering.
Quartzite
Unique and sophisticated are the most appropriate words to describe quartzite, the stone of choice for discriminating designers. With earth tones of varied grey, blue grey, brown, and cream are highlighted with silver, white, gold, peach, orange, rust, red, mauve and deep charcoal-shimmering with an iridescent, metallic sheen and flecked with pin points of glistening mica schist. It is a metamorphosed natural quartz sandstone and is found in association with other metamorphosed sedimentary rocks. is subjected to heat and pressure, it turns into quartzite stone, which is an incredibly hard and dense material composed of quartz crystals.
